On Saturday 30 June, the College held a memorial service for Professor Roger Carpenter in Chapel. Formerly Professor of Oculomotor Physiology, Professor Carpenter served Caius as Tutor, Registrary and Director of Studies in Medicine, and is warmly remembered as an admired teacher of neuroscience to many generations of Caian medical students. He died on 27 October 2017 after a long illness.

Attended by family, friends and Roger's former colleagues, the service was led by the Dean, the Revd Dr Cally Hammond with music sung by the College Choir. Readings were given by Director of Studies in Clinical Medicine Dr John Latimer and College President Professor John Mollon, with addresses from  Assistant Director of Studies in Medical Science Dr Dunecan Massey, Life Fellow Dr Joe Herbert and Neuroscientist Michael Shadlan.

To recognise the contribution made by Professor Carpenter to the teaching of medical students at Caius, the College has established the Roger Carpenter Fund. The fund will support research undertaken by Caius medical students in the general area of medical science. For those who would like to make a donation to celebrate Roger's memory, please visit the Roger Carpenter Fund page.
