Life at Caius

Caius is at the centre of University life in Cambridge. We're ideally located in the very heart of the town — just off the market square, a few minutes from the University Library and ideally placed for all the University faculties so you're never far from lectures, sports and other facilities or shops.

With about 550 undergraduate students and 280 graduates, we're one of the largest and most diverse college communities in Cambridge, which means there's a huge range of people to mix with - and a wide choice of clubs, sports, societies and social events. At Caius we don't judge you or pigeon-hole you: it's up to you how you live College life, and our students like it that way. We welcome you and leave it to you to choose whether to develop existing interests or try something entirely new; to make the most of activities in College or explore the facilities and opportunities of the wider University.

The College has two main sites, both offering exceptional facilities.  The Old Courts - five beautiful courtyards just off King's Parade - are the College's medieval heart. A few minutes' walk away on our West Road site, our modern accommodation set in beautiful landscaped gardens is some of the best in Cambridge. These rooms, all fully networked and with an on-site gym and laundry rooms, are the base for all our first years, so everyone gets to know each other quickly when they arrive. Our sports ground (with tennis, squash and basketball courts and a gym) is one of the most central in the city. The College guarantees individual accommodation to all its undergraduates throughout their time as students.

Lunch and dinner are served in the College Hall daily, and breakfast is available in the College bar. Caius is unusual in really encouraging students to eat together in Hall - we offer two sittings each evening, one informal and then a formal hall where students wear our distinctive blue gowns (there's no dress code for what you wear under them!) and are served a three-course meal.

Caius has lots of places to relax and meet friends. The College bar in the Old Courts is open every day, with cocktail nights on Wednesdays. During the day, the bar is a communal area where you can meet up with friends or get some work done. It serves great coffee at cheap prices (£1.55 for a capuccino, and we also operate a Caius card loyalty scheme offering discounts). There are two common rooms - one in Old Courts and one on the West Road site - as well as the new Iain Macpherson Building which has a games console and pool table.

Explore our site to find out more about what it's like to live here - and don't forget you can follow our student union on Facebook and Instagram for a student-eye view, or take a look at the Gonville & Caius Student Union website and the student-produced Alternative Prospectus. Finally, do come to see Caius for yourself, either at one of our open days, or at any other time - prospective applicants are always welcome to look round, even when the College is closed to visitors. Just ask at the Porters' Lodge..
