Victoria Walker (2015) has been selected to row in the Lightweight Women's Boat Race in the 2018 Henley Boat Races on 18 March. The third year medic began rowing at The King's School Chester and, remarkably, will be the third member of the Walker family to represent Cambridge and Caius in a Varsity Boat Race. Her brother, Peter (2007), rowed in Goldie in 2014, while sister Emma (2010) rowed in the Lightweight Women's Boat Race in 2015.

Victoria (fourth from left in photo) said: “I'm so proud to have the opportunity to race representing both Caius and Cambridge on Sunday and be able to leave my small mark on an incredible history. I count myself lucky that I've spent my year surrounded by strong, brave, talented women who can even have a smile on their face at 5am. Balancing work and our training can be stressful at times and days are normally long and caffeine-fuelled, but being part of the squad makes it all worthwhile. I'm excited to see what the culmination of this year's hard work has in store for the mighty lighties.”

The Lightweight Women's Boat Race is scheduled to take place at 3:30pm and has been held at Henley every year since 1984, with Cambridge currently in the lead with 24 wins to Oxford's 16. Victoria will join Naomi Pygott, Miriam Apsley, Rebecca Hartwell, Olivia Hamilton, Lucy Harris, Debs Oakley, Ellie Thompson and cox Stephanie Payne. The crew are awarded Half Blues for competing against Oxford. Caian cox and fellow medic Tara Slade (2015) has been named as one of the five spares racing in a coxed four against Oxford, while MML student Calum MacRae (2017) will be racing in the Lightweight Men's Boat.
