Students compete in Fairbairn Cup Races

Cambridge Women’s Boat Club and Cambridge University Lightweight Rowing Club entered crews in the annual Fairbairn Cup races, which took place on the Cam on Friday 30 November.

Among the crews were undergraduate Catherine King and graduate student Victoria Walker, seat 5 and 6 respectively in the lightweight Women’s Eight. Harry O’Loughlin, a Caius undergraduate, also represented Caius rowing in seat 2 in the Lightweight Men’s Eight.

All five Cambridge University boats, featuring 41 athletes and representing 18 colleges, rowed well. Racing for time only, the CUWBC first crew were the quickest in the women’s eights in 14min 47sec, and their second crew was second in 15.06.

The Fairbairn Cup, organised by Jesus College Boat Club has taken place since 1929 and is raced over 4.3kms along the River Cam. The event is open to Cambridge, Oxford and Durham Colleges.
