Fellow in Spanish appointed

Dr Geoffrey Maguire will be elected as a Fellow of Gonville & Caius College and College Lecturer in Spanish, starting in October 2021.

Dr Maguire is currently the Lorna Close Lecturer in Spanish at Murray Edwards College and a College Lecturer and Director of Studies in MML at Peterhouse. He specialises in contemporary Latin American film, literature and visual art, with particular interests in cultural memory, queer representation, and sexuality and gender.

Dr Maguire is the author of The Politics of Postmemory (2017) and New Visions of Adolescence in Contemporary Latin America (2018). He is currently the project lead of Queer Conceptions, an interdisciplinary network for researchers working on reproduction and reproductive rights from the fields of cultural studies, sociology, politics and the biological sciences.

He says: “I am delighted to be elected to the Fellowship of Gonville & Caius College. I look forward to working with the exceptional students and Fellows in MML and to contributing to the study of languages and cultures more broadly.”

He will also teach at Emmanuel College as part of his new role.
