Cook-Crone Research Bye-Fellow appointed

Dr Jason Hawkes has been appointed as Cook-Crone Research Bye-Fellow in Archaeology starting at Gonville & Caius College in October 2021.

He is currently an external Director of Studies in Archaeology at Caius, and is also a Visiting Professor of Buddhist Studies at Leiden University. His research examines the relationships between religion and society, cultural and environmental interactions, as well as archaeological heritage in South and Southeast Asia. At the moment, Dr Hawkes is involved in research projects in both central India and Myanmar.

During the role, which is for one year, Dr Hawkes will be working on the first comprehensive, up-to-date and freely accessible survey of the archaeology of early Buddhism.
