Gonville & Caius’ College Nurse, Natasha Kear, has received a commendation in the 2018 Student-Led Teaching Awards, organised by the Cambridge University Students’ Union (CUSU).

As the name suggests, the annual awards are entirely led by students and were introduced to reward outstanding teaching and student support across the University and the Colleges. The awards provide students with an opportunity to thank and acknowledge those members of staff who have made an outstanding contribution to their University experience, and are an indicator of the services that are most valued by the student body.

Natasha was commended in the Student Support (Non-Academic) category, which recognises exceptional pastoral care. Upon hearing of the recognition, Natasha said: “This is a surprise, but I’m delighted - thank you to whoever nominated me. It’s a lovely gesture and I really appreciate it.”

Prior to joining Caius nine years ago, Natasha had a long career in the NHS – working across hospitals, the community and GP practices. On her role as College Nurse, Natasha commented: “I love working with our students; their health and welfare is the reason I am here, and therefore my priority.  I will always do my best to provide students with professional and compassionate health-care, support and advice – whatever their reason for attending clinic.”

Students can visit Natasha in the Caius Health Centre for a wide range of health and welfare issues including minor injuries and illnesses, wound care, support with mental health and well-being concerns, and other personal matters; as well as various health checks and advice. Natasha can also help with making referrals or sign-posting to other local health professionals or services if needed.

In addition to appointments in the Health Centre, Natasha offers all incoming students a consultation at the start of their time at Caius. Fresher consultations give new students the opportunity to discuss any health or welfare related matters, as well as familiarise themselves with the services available at Caius Health Centre.

Current students can book an appointment with Natasha via the online booking system (further information is available on the College intranet).
