Adam Hickox (Music 2014) has been appointed principal conductor of the Glyndebourne Sinfonia, Glyndebourne have announced.

After graduating from Gonville & Caius College, Adam studied conducting at the Royal Academy of Music.

“This appointment is a great honour,” Adam said. “Being part of the Glyndebourne family is truly a dream come true, and I can’t wait to deepen my relationship with the fantastic orchestra and the Glyndebourne Chorus over the coming seasons. I felt an immediate click with the orchestra from the first rehearsal, and every time I step into the pit, I am excited to work with them once again.”

The Glyndebourne Sinfonia is the resident orchestra for the Sussex-based opera house’s autumn programme of opera and concerts. Adam made his Glyndebourne debut this autumn conducting Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and in 2022 was assistant conductor for the Festival production of the Poulenc Double Bill. As Principal Conductor of the Glyndebourne Sinfonia, he will return to conduct opera productions, as well as concert performances, as part of the autumn seasons in 2024 and 2025.

The Glyndebourne Sinfonia (formerly the Glyndebourne Tour Orchestra) was formed in 1990 and is resident at Glyndebourne for its autumn programme each year. It comprises a diverse mix of talented and committed freelance players and performs a wide range of repertoire with distinction and versatility.

Adam has worked with ensembles including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. For his full biography, visit his website.
