Events at Caius
Here at Caius we host various events throughout the year - from our annual Women in Economics Day to various subject days and lectures - and we are excited to build up our events programme further.
Information about all upcoming events, including links from which to book places, will be posted on this page, so do keep an eye out for the latest developments.
Caius Medicine Access Day - Thursday 31st January 2019
Aspiring Medicine students who are currently in year 12 are welcome at our Caius Medicine Access Day at college on Thursday 31st January. School students will be led primarily by our own Medicine Students from the MedSoc student group. The day will run from 10.00am to 3.00pm. It is, of course, free to attend and lunch will be provided.
The day promises to be lots of fun and incredibly informative, with sessions being held about our admissions process, as well as what it’s like to be a Medicine student at Cambridge. We will also be hosting sample supervision activities, and sessions for attendees to get a taste of the Cambridge teaching style.
Print out a poster and pin it up in your school.
There are limited places for this event, and they are being allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Any students who want to attend simply need to complete our quick online booking form.
We look forward to welcoming aspiring Medics to Gonville & Caius College on the day.
Keep a look out for our other events
Caius BME Conference 2018
On Friday 16th February, we held our first ever BME Conference. The day was specifically for Year 12 students from our link areas, with the aim being for attendees to gain a true insight into what studying at Cambridge - and at Caius - is like. Over 25 students took time out of their half term to attend and, happily, reported that they had enjoyed their time with us and felt much more confident and comfortable in applying to Cambridge.
An article about the event can be found here: https://www.cai.cam.ac.uk/news/caius-hosts-inaugural-bme-conference.
Women in Economics Day 2018
Around ninety students attended the fourth Women in Economics day at Caius in 2018. Entitled 'Policy and Politics: how to bring about lasting economic change - for the better', the event focussed on the translation of theoretical economics into real-world policy changes. Once again, the event featured inspiring speakers including Hannah Peaker, Chief of Staff of the Women's Equality Party, Melissa Davey, Director of Independent Evaluation at the Bank of England, Laura van der Erve, a Research Economist at the Institute of Fiscal Studies, Dr Carolina Alves, a rising star in heterodox economics, Shyamoli Patel of Cambridge Econometrics, Caius Director of Studies in Economics Dr Victoria Bateman, and current Economics students at Caius.
The day is targeted at female students in Years 12 and 13 who are interested in economics. It presents the chance for students to not only engage with the subject and topical issues within the field, but also find out more about studying Economics at degree level and to celebrate the work of female economists around the world. Further, it provides an opportunity to experience a Cambridge college environment first-hand and to speak with experts in their field, including our own Director of Studies for Economics, Dr Victoria Bateman.
This free event is open to all sixth form students and Economics GCSE or A-Level is not required. The day as a whole runs from 10.30am-4.30pm, with lunch and refreshments provided throughout the day.
