Events at Caius
Here at Caius we host various events throughout the year - from our annual Women in Economics Day to various subject days and lectures - and we are excited to build up our events programme further.
Information about all upcoming events, including links from which to book places, will be posted on this page, so do keep an eye out for the latest developments.
Caius BME Conference 2018
On Friday 16th February, we held our first ever BME Conference. The day was specifically for Year 12 students from our link areas, with the aim being for attendees to gain a true insight into what studying at Cambridge - and at Caius - is like. Over 25 students took time out of their half term to attend and, happily, reported that they had enjoyed their time with us and felt much more confident and comfortable in applying to Cambridge.
An article about the event can be found here: https://www.cai.cam.ac.uk/news/caius-hosts-inaugural-bme-conference.
Caius Medicine Access Day
On Saturday 4 November 2017, we welcomed over fifty aspiring Medicine students into College, for a day aimed at de-mystifying the application process and providing an insight into life as a Medicine student at University. Students on the day got to hear from current students, as well as attend mini supervision sessions and a sample lecture from one of our Directors of Studies, Dr James Fraser. This free event was open to Year 12 students attending state schools and sixth forms within our link areas. Information about any repeat event will be updated on this page in late summer of 2018.
Women in Economics Day
The fourth annual Women in Economics Day takes place on 20 September 2018. Entitled 'Policy and Politics: how to bring about lasting economic change - for the better', the event will focus on the translation of theoretical economics into real-world policy changes. Once again, the event will be held at Caius and will feature inspiring speakers including Hannah Peaker, Chief of Staff of the Women's Equality Party, Melissa Davey, Director of Independent Evaluation at the Bank of England, Laura van der Erve, a Research Economist at the Institute of Fiscal Studies, Caius Director of Studies in Economics Dr Victoria Bateman, and current Economics students at Caius.
The day is targeted at female students in Years 12 and 13 who are interested in economics. It presents the chance for students to not only engage with the subject and topical issues within the field, but also find out more about studying Economics at degree level and to celebrate the work of female economists around the world. Further, it provides an opportunity to experience a Cambridge college environment first-hand and to speak with experts in their field, including our own Director of Studies for Economics, Dr Victoria Bateman.
This free event is open to all sixth form students and Economics GCSE or A-Level is not required. The day as a whole runs from 10.30am-4.30pm, with lunch and refreshments provided throughout the day.
Please be advised that booking for our Women in Economics Day is now closed as we are fully subscribed for the event. If you would like to register interest, email firstname.lastname@example.org but please be advised that there is a significant waiting list and so a space opening at this stage is unlikely.
