English Essay Prize

Whilst the focus of the Cambridge English course is on the written word, students are also encouraged to explore other art forms, and the course gives students frequent opportunities to work in an interdisciplinary way; some of our most successful English students at Caius have also spent time during their degrees researching and writing about painting, architecture, film, opera, dance, garden design and installation art (to give just a few examples). Doing English at Cambridge, and at Caius, is about careful attention, thoughtful and informed analysis, original thinking and excellent communication; in other words, we want our students to be skilled critics, no matter what they are writing about.

Our essay competition, open to Year 12 students from UK schools, aims to recognise the achievements of gifted young critics from a diverse range of academic backgrounds and with a wide range of interests, and to encourage talented students with an interest in any of the subjects studied on the Cambridge English course to explore these interests further.

The English Essay Prize is not being offered in 2019.
