Success for Caius on University Challenge

  • 26 August 2014

The Caius College University Challenge team enjoyed success in the first round of the show. The match between St Anne’s College, Oxford, saw Caius acheive what Jeremy Paxman called ‘a terrific score’ of 305 points. Equally able to face questions on Pre-Raphaelite painting and medieval German kings the team look in good shape for the following rounds. On a more trivial note they also were well regarded in the twitter fashion stakes for their excellent knitwear.

Team member Micheal Taylor had this to say about the first round match: "Preparing for, and appearing on, University Challenge was a wonderful experience, both enlightening and humbling. In showing off what we know, we came to realize how much we don't know; but then again, the gamut of the show is basically the entirety of civilization. Watching now on TV is surreal: such was the pressure in the studio; I cannot remember much of the actual filming. In the end, I think we were all delighted to do the College proud, at least in the first round. Caius has not appeared on the show in something like a decade, so getting through to the next stage is a real boost. Here's hoping for future rounds!"
