Quasar, featuring Gonville & Caius College students Sarah O’Callaghan (Medicine 2019) and Finlay Gerrand (Physics PhD 2021), won Take it to the Bridge and a place at the Cambridge Club Festival last week.

Four bands took part in last Friday's 'battle of the bands' event at the Cambridge Junction, organised by the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Music Performance.

In an evening of exceptional performances, the originality of Quasar’s arrangements and the band’s authenticity, charismatic stage presence and engagement with the audience won over the judging panel, which included Matt Fincham (Music Editor, BBC Radio 1), Frazer Robinson (Co-Founder and Head of Programming, Cambridge Club Festival) and Ros Russell (Director, Cambridge Jazz Festival).

Quasar's prize is a set at this summer’s Cambridge Club Festival, performing in front of thousands alongside world renowned artists such as Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge, Melanie C, and Jessie Ware.

Quasar plays a unique blend of Hip-Hop and Jazz and includes students Alex Jones (Queens’ College), Finlay Gerrand (Gonville & Caius College), James Wang (King’s College), Reece D’Souza (Lucy Cavendish College), Safiya Tiotto-Smith (Clare College), Sarah O’Callaghan (Gonville & Caius College) and Vincent Mastin (Homerton College).
