Meet our Access Officer
Hi, I’m Dan, the current Access Officer on the Gonville & Caius Student Union (GCSU). My role includes getting current students involved in online and in-person outreach activities, with the aim of increasing the diversity of those who make applications. At Caius, we have a fantastic group of students who love their experiences of studying at Caius and want to encourage and assist any pupil who is passionate about their subject to come and experience it too.
I really enjoy hosting prospective students at Caius to show them round and enable them to ask questions of current students – it’s a great way of demonstrating that, whoever you are, a Cambridge education can be for someone like you. I got to visit Caius on an Open Day when I was applying, and it was really great to hear from current students – it helped me to imagine myself studying here. Sadly, it’s not possible to welcome schools and colleges for these in-person visits during this pandemic. So my role has shifted from arranging volunteers for the school and college group tours around Caius to encouraging current students to share their experiences by recording videos or participating in web conferences about studying at Caius.
Also, in consultation with the Class Act and BME Officers on the GCSU, I help voice student perspectives on what can be done to ensure that the admissions process is fair for everyone, regardless of background.
I’m always open to suggestions about things you’d like to know more about from our eager student volunteers when considering applying to Caius and during the process itself - please do get in touch on the student-run address firstname.lastname@example.org with ideas for how we can help.
