College Teaching Officer in Engineering

One-Year Fixed Term Career Development Post

Gonville and Caius College (University of Cambridge) seeks to appoint a one-year fixed-term career development CTO (College Teaching Officer) in Engineering from 1st September 2017 to deputise for certain Engineering Fellows during their sabbatical leave in 2017-18.

Caius is seeking an individual who could teach a range of subjects in Part I of the Engineering Tripos. Candidates with experience teaching some of the following papers may be at an advantage: Part IA Papers 1, 2 and 3 (Mechanical Engineering, Structures and Materials, Electrical and Information Engineering), and Part IB Papers 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 (Mechanics, Structures, Materials, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering, and Mathematical Methods).

The successful candidate will be elected to a Bye-Fellowship, which carries with it dining and other privileges, and will be expected to teach groups (normally of two students) for ten hours per week in Full Term, to direct studies for Part I of the Tripos, to assist with admissions interviews, and to engage in research. The stipend for a non-resident post-holder will be in the range £34,956 to £44,240 (University Scale points 45 to 53), which includes an element to cover the contracted amount of supervision. The appointment will be made at an appropriate point on this scale with reference to the successful candidate’s experience.
