Teambuilding Day

Kymab, based in Cambridge, is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a deep pipeline of novel human antibody-based therapies in a broad range of indications.

In August 2019, it held a teambuilding day at Acropolis At Caius for 25 members of staff, using both the interior space and also the gardens for activities.

The food was excellent and the organisation by the Events Team was first-class – nothing was too much trouble.

Andy Gosden, Kymab Senior Director, HR said: “Over the years I have used a number of different venues for our events and this one was definitely one of the most successful. The venue worked very well for our group. We were able to use one of the ‘hexagon’ spaces set out cabaret style for the workshops and the other for refreshments and lunch.

“It was a lovely day weather-wise and our teambuilding company, BrightVision, was able to set up the activities on the back lawn, out of view behind the tree line, so that it was a surprise to everyone when we went out there.

“I was particularly impressed by the quality and solidity of the space and the setting within the gardens. The food was excellent and the organisation by the Events Team was first-class – nothing was too much trouble.

“We hold team building days from time to time and like to get everyone off-site so they can focus. Based on the success of our day, I would like to return to Acropolis At Caius for a future event.”

PhD Scholars’ Garden Party

Cambridge Commonwealth, European & International Trust organises an annual Garden Party for those PhD scholars it supports who remain in Cambridge during the Summer months.

The event in August 2019 was the first to be held at Acropolis At Caius, although in previous years it has taken place in the gardens on the College’s West Road site.

The Caius Events Team was extremely helpful in providing an excellent service, tailored exactly to our needs.

Claire Lambert, the Trust’s Communications Manager, organises the event. She says: “We were delighted with our first garden party for 300 guests at Acropolis At Caius which worked extremely well. The tunnel leading into the main space was used as the entrance and as it was a lovely sunny day, we were able to have the doors into the wonderful gardens wide open for guests to wander around.

“The format is a barbeque and so food was cooked outside and then brought inside for serving, along with the drinks.

“I was impressed with the tasteful styling of the Acropolis, with its chandeliers and glass doors with views through to the gardens. It is a very attractive and light space.

“Feedback from those attending was very positive and I’d highly recommend the space for events of this type. As in previous years, the Caius Events Team was extremely helpful in providing an excellent service, tailored exactly to our needs.”

Soft Matter In Industry Symposium Dinner

Cambridge University Newton Gateway to Mathematics holds an annual three-day international symposium on Soft Matter In Industry, attended by 120 delegates from all over the world. The programme includes a dinner on one of the evenings.

The symposium is dedicated to a late Fellow of Gonville & Caius who was a key player in the Soft Matter field. As a result, the dinner has always been held at Old Courts but this year it took place at Acropolis At Caius.

I was so impressed with Acropolis At Caius, not only the way it nestles into the wonderful gardens, but also the stylish and beautiful interior which has been created with great attention to detail. The colour scheme and chandeliers also reflect Caius’ style.

Lissie Hope from the Newton Gateway who organises the event said: “Using the Acropolis worked very well logistically for us as it is on the West Road site. It was also an ideal space for our numbers – 70 people on this occasion – who we were able to be seated on round tables very comfortably.

“I was so impressed with Acropolis At Caius, not only the way it nestles into the wonderful gardens, but also the stylish and beautiful interior which has been created with great attention to detail. The colour scheme and chandeliers also reflect Caius’ style.

“This year, the food was of the same very high standard as always and the service was faultless. Everyone who attended enjoyed the evening, particularly being able to look out at the gardens through the glass doors in the evening light.”
