My research interests lie in brain cancer cell mechanobiology, combining engineering and cell biology to better understand the relationship between cell adhesion and tumour invasive capacity. Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and malignant primary brain cancer. No cure is available, and life expectancy after diagnosis remains poor despite advances in neurosurgery and subsequent multimodal radio-chemotherapies. I aim to establish how GBM vary in adhesion strength across tumours from different patients, and how this diversity affects cellular responses to treatment (adhesion-targeted therapy). I will apply this to test the efficacy of a novel immunotherapeutic treatment.
Supervisor for Materials (IA, IB). Director of Studies (IA), Gonville & Caius and Wolfson Colleges.
