Research Interests

I am a computational linguist. I model human language, implement those models computationally, and test them using real-world data. My motivations are twofold: to shed light on what it means to know a language, and to push forward the limits of machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Teaching Interests

For the Computer Science Tripos, I have supervised Part IA Machine Learning and Real-World Data, Part IB Formal Models of Language, and Part II Introduction to Natural Language Processing.  I have also lectured Part III Machine Learning for Language Processing.

For the Linguistics Tripos, I have supervised Part II Computational Linguistics.

For the Mathematics Tripos, I have supervised Part II Automata and Formal Languages.

At the University of the Saarland, for the undergraduate degree in Computational Linguistics, I have given tutorials on syntax and semantics.
