  • 22 May 2025

Gonville & Caius College Bye-Fellow Professor Mina Ryten has been named a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Professor Ryten is one of 54 exceptional biomedical and health scientists elected to the prestigious Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences - one of four from the University of Cambridge - which now numbers 1,450 researchers.

The Centre Director of the UK Dementia Research Institute, Professor Ryten is a clinician scientist with a long-standing interest in the use of human brain transcriptomics to understand neurological diseases.

A clinical geneticist and neuroscientist, she also holds the Van Geest Professorship and leads a lab focused on understanding molecular mechanisms driving neurodegeneration. Her research looks at how genetic variation influences neurological diseases, particularly Lewy body disorders. Her work has advanced the use of single cell and long-read RNA sequencing to map disease pathways and identify potential targets for new treatments. Her expertise in clinical care and functional genomics has enabled her to bridge the gap between patient experience and scientific discovery.

The new Fellows have been recognised for their remarkable contributions to advancing medical science, groundbreaking research discoveries and translating developments into benefits for patients and the wider public. Read the full announcement on the Academy of Medical Sciences website.
