Offer holders were today informed of their success in applying to Gonville & Caius for admission to the College in what was a highly competitive year.

Caius is looking forward to an October 2021 intake which maintains the College’s focus on academic excellence. Students were chosen based on ability and potential. A range of academic and contextual factors and, for the first time, online interviews were part of the process.

Of the successful candidates, a record 72.8% of 2021 offers to UK applicants have been made to those from the state sector, while 35.4% of all home offers have been made to applicants with at least one indicator of disadvantage (detailed statistics are below).

Dr Chris Scott, Caius Tutor for Admissions and Outreach, thanked all applicants. He had words of consolation for those who were not successful in this most unique and challenging of years.

Dr Scott said: “I would like to congratulate all our new offer-holders, and to commiserate with those who missed out on a place this challenging and competitive year. Thank you to all our applicants who had to contend with the very difficult circumstances of the pandemic, educational and otherwise, as they made their applications. You should all be very proud, irrespective of the outcome of your application; I hope that you will prosper wherever you go and in whatever you go on to do.

“We are pleased to look forward to a home intake in 2021 whose makeup is more reflective of the application field across the University, and somewhat more reflective of the wider picture of UK education.

“Whilst we recognise that these figures represent a step in the right direction, we know there is much still to do, across outreach, admissions, and in College. I hope that these numbers will show to anyone considering applying here that it is their academic potential which we are looking for, and that Caius is a place where all promising students can flourish, irrespective of educational and social background.”

We recognise many offer holders are yet to have an opportunity to visit Caius, and we are actively exploring the best way to allow offer holders safely to visit the College and Cambridge as soon as it is feasibly possible. Selected offer holders will also be invited on the Bridging Course, with full details to follow.
