Gonville & Caius College Fellow Dr François·e Charmaille has been awarded the 2025 Derek Brewer Prize, awarded annually by the Arthurian Literature journal.

Fran began their Research Fellowship at Caius in October 2023, exploring the fluidity of gender. Click for a link to a previous interview with them.

They have been awarded the 2025 Derek Brewer Prize for their essay, “Transgender Grammar in the Tale of Grisandole”. 

The prize, named after the influential Cambridge-based scholar of medieval literature, is awarded annually by the journal Arthurian Literature for a scholarly paper on an Arthurian topic.

Fran’s article will be published in the 2026 issue of Arthurian Literature.
