Following the University of Cambridge’s accreditation as a Living Wage Employer, and a subsequent open letter signed by students and alumni, as well as students of other colleges, Gonville & Caius College wishes to clarify its position.

Senior Bursar Robert Gardiner said: “Gonville & Caius College wishes to do the right thing by its staff and ensures that all permanently contracted staff are paid at least the Real Living Wage when the college reviews pay with effect from 1 August each year.

“In addition to pay, staff are offered membership of a high quality, defined benefit pension scheme and receive other non-cash benefits.

“For its casual staff the college pays more than the National Living Wage and many receive at least the Real Living Wage.

“On a related matter of doing what we believe is right for our staff, during the pandemic where the college has furloughed staff, it has done so on full salary as well as applying the furlough scheme to a significant proportion of its casuals.”
