Gold award in Green Impact scheme

  • 08 June 2021

We are proud to announce that Gonville & Caius College has achieved a Gold Colleges award for the 2020-21 Green Impact year.

Green Impact is the University of Cambridge’s environmental accreditation scheme. The initiative is in place to help us all in departments and colleges across the University more environmentally friendly through everyday actions.

Particular thanks at Caius go to MCR Green Officer Heqing Huang for all of her work on the Green Impact accreditation, as Caius claimed a gold accreditation in the College’s first participation in the scheme.

Heqing said: “Throughout the years, Caius has had a great deal of good practices to reduce our College’s environmental impact. During the process of preparing Caius for the Green Impact accreditation, I was in awe of the work by different departments.

“As the bridge between the student body and the College, I think it is important to let our members know about our College’s efforts and acknowledge our own achievements. Special thanks to the Domestic Bursar’s Office, Catering, Communications, Estates, Housekeeping, Conference, Porters, Tutorial, Accommodation, MCR, and JCR for their generous help.”

Domestic Bursar Jennifer Phillips said: “We are delighted to receive the Gold award from Green Impact, and I would like to thank all members of the Caius community – students, staff and Fellows – for supporting us through their own actions in College to reduce our footprint.

“Special mention must go to MCR Green Officer Heqing Huang for her enthusiasm and dedication in driving the success.

“The awareness and measures implemented through Green Impact are something we are determined to build on in future.”

The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 14 July.
