Award-winning opera company Shadwell Opera this weekend presents a double bill of Schoenberg’s Erwartung and Mark Anthony Turnage’s Twice Through the Heart, performed at the Hackney Showroom in London. Separated by 90 years, each monodrama charts the blistering psychological journey of an isolated woman. Both are set to words written by a female librettist: Marie Pappenheim and Jackie Kay.

Four Caians are behind the production: Shadwell Opera’s Artistic Director Jack Furness and Associate Director Celine Lowenthal direct, musical director Finnegan Downie Dear conducts and the producer is Pollyanna Furness. The programme will feature the role debuts of the exciting operatic talents Madeleine Pierard and Kate Howden.

Artist Sergei Zinchuk will also be constructing a psychological / physical prison around the audience during the interval.

Performances are 7.30pm at Hackney Showroom on Friday and Saturday 4/5 November, and concession prices are for all under 30s. For a sneak preview, check out this short film.
