Five Fellows admitted in Caius Chapel

Professor Aaron Koller, the University of Cambridge’s new Regius Professor of Hebrew, has returned to Gonville & Caius College as one of five new Fellows admitted in Chapel on Monday evening.

The admission of Fellows on Monday 6 October followed the installation of Professor Richard Gilbertson as the College’s 44th Master on Wednesday 1 October. Professor Gilbertson succeeds Professor Pippa Rogerson as Master.

Professor Koller was Cook-Crone Bye-Fellow in 2022-23, and his appointment by the University was announced in April

Joining Professor Koller in being admitted to the Fellowship are four academics, who were recommended for election through the Research Fellowship Competition in February. Caius alumnus Zaki Rehman (History 2017) in History and Shruti Iyer in Law were chosen through the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences competition, Boyao Liu and Gonzalo Villa, both Physics, were chosen through the Sciences competition. The quartet have now begun their four-year Research Fellowships at Caius.

Dr Christina Faraday, Dr Vedran Sulovsky, Dr Orfeas Chasapis Tassinis, Dr R. Sánchez-Rivera and Mr Franco Basso left the Fellowship at the end of September.

Dr Nayla Luz Vacarezza (HSPS) has joined as Visiting Bye-Fellow for Scholars from the Global South. She succeeds Dr James Njunge in the position following the end of his 12-month term.

Professor Andy Merrills has returned to the University of Leicester after a year, succeeded as Cook-Crone Bye-Fellow at Caius by Dr Danilo Verde.

Dr Annette Mahon (Education) and Dr William Huddleston (MML (Spanish)) have joined as Bye-Fellows. Ms Célestine Barraquand has joined as French Lectrice, replacing Ms Clara Berne.
