Director of Studies in Clinical Medicine appointed MRC Clinical Director

Professor Patrick Chinnery, Gonville & Caius Director of Studies in Clinical Medicine, has been appointed Clinical Director at the Medical Research Council (MRC).

As part of his prestigious new role, Professor Chinnery will join MRC’s senior management team and will play a key role in developing, promoting and implementing MRC research programmes, working with national and international partners.

Professor Chinnery will continue to guide students through the clinical component of their Medicine course at Caius as Director of Studies. His clinical expertise is in neurology, with specific interests in genetic disorders of the nervous system, particularly those caused by mitochondrial dysfunction.

Commenting on his recent appointment, Professor Chinnery, said: “I am delighted about the new role. As Director of Studies in Clinical Medicine at Caius, I ensure our students are equipped with comprehensive clinical training and knowledge that will allow them to become responsible, compassionate and highly skilled doctors. I hope to impart my knowledge of clinical medicine and medical research to our students.”
