Caius undergraduate Seán McMahon will play open side flanker in the Cambridge squad that will go head to head with Oxford in this year’s 137th Varsity Match on Thursday 6 December at Twickenham.

Seán, who joined Cambridge University Rugby Union Football Club (CURUFC) in his fresher year, will join a squad made up of 10 returning Blues. The squad has performed well in the lead up to Varsity, currently on a four-match winning streak, including an impressive win against an experienced Steele-Bodger’s side.

Seán has been playing rugby for nine years, starting when he was just 12 years old for Clongowes Wood College in Ireland. Although this is his first Varsity Match for the Blues, he has previously played in the LX Varsity 2017 and in the U20s Varsity in Lent 2018.

With only a few more days until the match, Seán commented ‘I am eagerly preparing with the team for the game and I'm looking forward to enjoying every moment I am out there on the pitch, representing both my College and my University.’

Thirty-eight Caians and their guests will join Master Dr Pippa Rogerson and our Development Director at a Caius party at Twickenham. They will make up our ‘onsite’ cheer squad, but there will no doubt be Caians cheering from all over the world.

Good luck to the Cambridge CURUFC and CURUFCW squads.
