Gonville & Caius College Archive and Library present a joint exhibition on the history of human ventures into the Earth's inhospitable deserts, hot and cold. The desert has been a test of spiritual commitment, an obstacle for commerce and diplomacy, a field for exploration and experiment, and a theatre of war.

Selections from the College's archives and its library of early and modern books will reveal this fertile history, including the experiences of the Caians Charles Montagu Doughty in the Arabian Desert, Ralph Bagnold in the Libyan Desert, and Edward Wilson in Antarctica.

The exhibition opens with extended hours on Thursday 20 March and Friday 21 March. All Caius members, staff, and their guests are welcome between 2.30 and 5.30 p.m. Thereafter it will be open, on demand, between 2.30-4.30 p.m., Monday to Friday. For access press the buzzer in the lobby of the Lower Library.
