Life at Caius
Caius is at the centre of University life in Cambridge. We're ideally located in the very heart of the town — just off the market square, a few minutes from the University Library and ideally placed for all the University faculties so you're never far from lectures, sports and other facilities or shops.
With about 550 undergraduate students and 280 graduates, we're one of the largest and most diverse college communities in Cambridge, which means there's a huge range of people to mix with - and a wide choice of clubs, sports, societies and social events. At Caius we don't judge you or pigeon-hole you: it's up to you how you live College life, and our students like it that way. We welcome you and leave it to you to choose whether to develop existing interests or try something entirely new; to make the most of activities in College or explore the facilities and opportunities of the wider University.
The College has two main sites, both offering exceptional facilities. The Old Courts - five beautiful courtyards just off King's Parade - are the College's medieval heart. A few minutes' walk away on our West Road site, our modern en-suite accommodation set in beautiful landscaped gardens is some of the best in Cambridge. These rooms, with an on-site gym and laundry rooms, are the base for all our first years, so everyone gets to know each other quickly when they arrive. Our sports ground (with tennis, squash and basketball courts and a gym) is one of the most central in the city. The College guarantees individual accommodation to all its undergraduates throughout their entire time as students.
Dinner is served every night in the College Hall, with lunch served Monday to Friday and (a very popular) brunch on Saturday. Breakfast is available in the College café/bar. Caius is unusual in really encouraging students to eat together in Hall - we offer two sittings six nights a week, one informal and then a formal hall where students wear our distinctive blue gowns and are served a three-course meal.
Caius has lots of places to relax and meet friends. The College bar in the Old Courts is open every night serving a variety of drinks, including Caius Ale on tap. During the day, the bar transforms into a café and communal area where you can meet up with friends or get some work done, all while enjoying great coffee from the independent Cambridge roastery Hot Numbers. Over on the West Road site, Harvey's Coffee House serves speciality coffee and delicious treats from local bakeries, with a discount for Caius students. We also have two common rooms for games, movies, and more.
Explore our site to find out more about what it's like to live here. Our interactive guide is a great place to start, and features students, academics, and staff. You can also see tours of accommodation and facilities. You can follow our Caius Schools social media for application tips, inside views of the college, and more. For a student-eye view, check out our student union on Facebook and Instagram or take a look at their website. Finally, do come to see Caius for yourself, either at one of our open days, or at any other time - prospective applicants are always welcome to look round. Just ask at the Porters' Lodge.
