Senior Bursar

Founded in 1348, Gonville & Caius is one of the oldest and largest colleges at the heart of the University of Cambridge. The College’s diverse and international community comprises some 530 undergraduate students, 250 graduate students, 110 Fellows and around 200 staff. Gonville & Caius is looking for a Senior Bursar to join this dynamic environment, and to succeed the current Senior Bursar, Dr David Secher, who is retiring from the role in September 2018.

The role

As a member of the College Council, the Senior Bursar’s key responsibility is the management of the College’s finances and investments. He or she plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the College’s financial affairs sustain and enhance its position as a world class academic community, particularly in supporting its research and educational objectives. The Senior Bursar also provides an essential financial perspective in strategic and operational discussions, and maintains crucial relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including agents and University officers.

The candidate

Applicants will have finely-tuned financial literacy, and analytical and problem solving skills gained at a senior professional level in organisations of relevant scale and complexity. Candidates will also demonstrate significant experience of strategic and financial management, coupled with first-class communication and interpersonal skills.  Personal qualities of adaptability, diplomacy, sound judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a collegiate environment are also required.
