Commis Chef

The Role

We welcome qualified applicants to our opening for Commis Chef at the College, at an exciting time when Caius is travelling on a journey to deliver food excellence throughout our food provision.  As Commis Chef you will be experienced in working in a varied number of sections within the Kitchen including vegetable, larder and pastry. Qualified to NVQ 2/3 in professional cookery you will have a keen interest in modern pastry, street food, modern techniques and varied cuisines. The role will report to the Head Chef and Sous Chefs and you should be willing to learn new techniques in all areas.

This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week, working 5 days out of 7. The ability and willingness to adopt a flexible approach to working hours is expected, and you may be required to work additional hours from time to time in order to fulfil the requirements of the role and the needs of the College.

The salary for the full time position is £19,656 per annum. In addition the College offers excellent benefits including automatic enrolment into a defined benefit pension scheme, 33 days annual holiday (including Public Holidays), meals on duty and a medical cashback scheme which gets you money back on prescriptions, optical and dental treatments, and discounts through shops, cinemas and utility providers, amongst others.

The College

Gonville and Caius College is one of the largest colleges in the University of Cambridge. It is an educational charity and its mission is to provide a place of education, religion, learning and research, in conjunction with the University that is recognised internationally as being of the highest standard.

The College is an academic community comprising some 530 undergraduate students, 250 graduate students, and 110 Fellows (lecturers, professors and other senior academic researchers and teachers) and almost 200 staff. It plays a significant role throughout the University. Our students come from all over the world and our undergraduates study all the subjects offered in the University. Our postgraduates play a vital role in the research activities of the wider University. Our Fellows have globally renowned research expertise ranging from Ancient History to Cosmology and are all recognised as leaders in their fields.
