College Lectureship in Economics
Gonville & Caius College invite applications for a Lectureship in Economics to be held with a Fellowship at Gonville & Caius. Applications will be considered from persons with research expertise in any area of Economics and/or Economic History. It is expected that the successful candidate will have completed their PhD at the time of application.
The successful candidate will be required to supervise British Economic History (Part I, Paper 5), which includes the British Industrial Revolution and the Interwar era, and, ideally, Macroeconomics (Part I, Paper 2). They will be contracted to teach in small groups of students for ten hours per teaching week (there are 20 teaching weeks per academic year), and also to direct studies for Caius undergraduates, which is likely to include some undergraduate dissertation supervision. This post also includes the opportunity to take on a pastoral role in the form of Tutor, under the direction of the Senior Tutor. More generally, Teaching Fellows are expected to pursue their own research and to contribute to the academic community at Caius.
The appointment will be for a fixed term of 23 months, starting on 1 October 2021 and ending on 31 August 2023. The current annual stipend of a College Lecturer who does not hold a University or other office is on the University Single Pay Spine - points 45 to 53 (currently in the range £36,914 to £46,718). This salary is pensionable under the University Superannuation Scheme. There is a £3,330 (indexed) residents’ reduction in salary for Fellows who choose to occupy residential college accommodation. Accommodation may also be available for accompanied Fellows, at a cost which varies depending on the requirement. Should the successful candidate wish to serve as a College Tutor at Caius, providing pastoral support for students in a range of subjects, the additional stipend is currently £8,787. Service as director of studies is also separately remunerated.
The successful candidate would be elected to a Fellowship of Gonville & Caius College to be held for the duration of their tenure as College Lecturer.
