Information for Library visitors

External readers and other visitors

Access to the Upper Library (the working collection) may occasionally be permitted to individuals who are not members of the College for the purpose of consulting books not readily available elsewhere. Such access is by appointment only and can be arranged by contacting a member of library staff. Books may not be borrowed.

Visiting times for external readers are between 9:30am-12:45pm and 2:15-5:00pm Monday to Friday.

Alumni of the College are welcome to visit the Library during staff working hours. Drop-in visits can often be accommodated, but contact in advance of a visit is preferable.

All visitors should report to the Porters’ Lodge on arrival. The Library is based in the Cockerell Building, separated from the College’s old courts by Senate House Passage.

For information about access to the Lower Library, which houses the College’s collection of early printed books and manuscripts, please see the Special collections page.

The Cockerell Building is equipped with a lift and chair lift to facilitate disabled access to both the Upper and Lower Libraries. It is recommeded that visitors with special access needs contact the Library in advance of their first visit.
