Welcome to Gonville & Caius Library! If you're thinking of studying at Gonville & Caius, the Library is here to help you.
We hold over 90,000 books and journals, with our working collections covering the first two years of the Cambridge Tripos, together with research-level material in many areas. We add over a thousand books to our collection every year and always welcome student recommendations.
The Library has a generous borrowing policy of up to 30 items per user. Loan periods are for one term or one vacation. Books are borrowed via self-issue machines.
We are open from 7am to 1am daily, with staff present on weekdays between 9am and 5pm. The only exception is a brief period over Christmas and the New Year.
The Library is based in the Cockerell building, separated from the College’s old courts by Senate House Passage. The building also houses the Computer Office and computing facilities. The Cockerell Building is equipped with a lift and chair lift to facilitate disabled access to both the Upper and Lower Libraries.
Other facilities include:
- Printer, scanner and photocopier
- WiFi throughout the building
- Over 90 study spaces
- A side-room reserved for Graduate students
- A rest area for eating, drinking and relaxing
- Locker room
We’re not just here for academic books; we also hold popular fiction, performance scores, examination papers, scientific models, CDs and DVDs. Our Lower Library houses special collections of over 25,000 rare books and manuscripts, which you will be able to consult as a Gonville & Caius student.
Outside the College, the University Library and your Departmental/Faculty Library will also be at your disposal. In addition, all Cambridge students have access to a wide range of electronic resources, including online databases, electronic journals and e-books.
