Computing
There are two computer rooms in College (Cockerell Building and Harvey Court — please note Harvey Court computer room unavailable 2010–11 due to Harvey Court refurbishment), and one graduate-only computer room at Harvey Road, connected to the University Computing Service's Public Workstation Facility (PWF). Each room contains PCs, Macs, one or more black-and-white printers, and a scanner. There is also one PWF machine in room 6 on the north side of the Upper Library, and an email-only machine in the JCR in Gonville Court.
Undergraduates will be able to find out their email address in September, shortly before taking up a place in Cambridge. Postgraduate students who were previously undergraduates at Cambridge will retain their email addresses. New Cambridge postgraduates can also find their email address here.
If you have not already received your password by other means, you can log on with the username "signup" (with no password) in order to collect it.
You can forward mail to your Cambridge account once it is open, but you will not be able to read mail until you arrive in Cambridge and collect your password. Initial passwords are not sent out by post or email, or given over the telephone.
College members can download up to 5GB of material per week free of charge. This should be ample for most users. Charges apply above this limit. These are set-out in the document Computer Network Charges, available to download as a pdf below. Any student who needs to exceed this quota for academic purposes should first obtain the support of their Tutor, Director of Studies or the Senior Tutor.
Further information is available from the internal site.
